Gettin’ Muddy
Remember mud pies? Digging in to the wet mud and squeezing it out through your fingers? This is almost the same, just a little cleaner. Shelly Jordan is an art student at GCCC and has taught many art and pottery classes for Kids’ College, Personal Enrichment and College 4 Life. She will share with you the delights of getting muddy! Learn about different types of clay and different ways to play. Wear old clothing so you don’t get yelled at by mom for messing up your Sunday best!

Master Story Teller Phil Machotka

Coronado, The Santa Fe Trail, Lewis and Clark, Zebulon Pike. What do all of these things have in common? They are all a part of Kansas history. Join Master Storyteller Phil Machotka as he tells you about treasure and treachery, debauchery and disease, fame and fortune. Phil has been a history buff for most of his adult life and is especially interested in Western History. He has told stories at family reunions, boy scout camps and schools. During the summer you can find him in the Boot Hill Saloon in Dodge City, where he entertains tourists as a cowboy.  There will be time for you to ask your own questions about the Wild West!

SENIORS TOGETHER ENHANCING PHYSICAL SUCCESS (STEPS)

It is commonly recognized that regular physical activity in the older adult population can decrease the risk of developing high blood pressure, osteoporosis, heart disease, diabetes and depression. Seniors can improve their health and maintain their independence by incorporating physical activity into their daily lives.

The STEPS program focuses on important skills; endurance, strength, balance, posture and flexibility. Although the program is designed for physically unfit older adults, it is broken down it to two formats, for those more active and the “near frail” seniors.

Trainers will lead you step-by-step to a healthier, better looking you. They will show proper weight lifting techniques that will strengthen your body and which will result in a boost in metabolism. The stronger you are the easier it is to move.
